“Why Do We Suffer?”

We human beings are the beings most conscious of death, and awareness of this truth is an anxiety we bury deep within the mind. By clinging to every moment of life and immersing ourselves in pleasures that cannot change the ultimate truth of our journey, we try to forget this suffering. Each year, these sufferings come closer, and in the final years they become our closest companions.

In this world, where chaos is continually expanding, there is always so little of us and so much of everything else. Our limitation before the growing entropy of the world is the source of our suffering, yet the truth is that without this limitation our existence would not be possible. If we were everything, everywhere, without limitation, and time itself were eternal, we would live in a timeless stability akin to the transcendent being we call God. But God, timelessness, and eternal stability have no story. Where there is no change, there is no story. It is through our limitation that we become the story of that which has neither time nor place. Our limitation makes it possible for us to exist and to have our own story within the vessel of time and space. Yet the unavoidable price of our existence and the unalterable consequence of that limitation is our unavoidable suffering in the world.
