"Is it not a mystery that, among all beings, we are the world's most unrealised possibility? We are the beings most deeply in the act of becoming among all that exists."

AYDIN ARETA

Medical Practitioner · Sociologist · Academic Researcher & Educator · Writer

Aydin Areta is an Iranian-Australian medical practitioner, sociologist, academic researcher and writer. His professional background includes clinical medical practice, with a particular interest in integrative medicine, and he is currently undertaking a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine with the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM). His academic experience includes university medical education, having held Senior Lecturer and Adjunct Senior Lecturer positions within the Schools of Medicine at the University of Notre Dame Australia and the University of New England.

His postgraduate background includes four years of doctoral study in Philosophy at Macquarie University from 2009 to 2013, progressing to thesis research, and three years of accredited specialist training in psychiatry from 2016 to 2019. Aydin is currently a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of New England, with anticipated completion in 2027. His research, writing and broader intellectual interests extend across sociology, philosophy, depth psychology and Iranology.

For more than three decades, his work has returned to a common question: what helps a human being become more conscious, more capable of agency, and more fully their own? Medicine brought him close to the body, illness and suffering; philosophy and depth psychology to meaning and the inner life; sociology to language, power and collective action. His writing, teaching and public seminars bring these perspectives together in a continuing humanistic inquiry into health, self-knowledge, freedom and individuation.
