What do we do when falsehood and injustice take place before our eyes?
We may remain silent so that our position is not put at risk and so that we are not treated in the same way. But the truth is this:
With every silence of ours, darkness gains one more step in ruling the world, and falsehood, lies and fear become the dominant culture of our home, our workplace and our society. We become a little more fearful and weaker, while falsehood and injustice become a little stronger.

Every silence increases the possibility of our next silence. Every act of indifference makes us more indifferent, and every time we bend, we move closer to a dark spectre of ourselves, more like shadows that have taken on the colour of darkness. Gradually, our ability to distinguish truth from falsehood disappears, until neither within ourselves nor in the world outside can we recognise truth from lies.

But if we are to find the strength to stand and say no to falsehood, even when we stand alone, we must first stop lying to ourselves and continually repeat to ourselves these words attributed here to Solzhenitsyn:
“If I cannot prevent lies and falsehood from entering the world, and even if lies ultimately prevail, I will not allow them to overcome me.”
