We have been told to compare our living conditions with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Only a small reminder. First, Iran is described here as, by a narrow margin after Canada, the fifth-richest country in the world in terms of natural-resource wealth and national resources.

Oil, gas, chromium, copper, iron ore, lead, zinc, manganese and sulphur are only some of the country’s abundant natural resources.

Iran is described here as the fifteenth country in the world in terms of the extent of agricultural land, the eleventh in biodiversity, and one of the five oldest countries in the world with cultural-tourism attractions.

Second, even the people of countries without wealth and natural resources comparable to Iran—countries whose modern political histories are described here as not extending much beyond a century and whose societies are highly traditional and restricted—are nevertheless, despite poverty and lack of freedom, happier than the people of Iran and enjoy greater freedoms.

In the global happiness ranking cited here, Bangladesh is ranked 101st, Pakistan 104th and Iran 149th among 156 countries.
In social freedoms, according to the Freedom House and Cato Institute reports referenced here, both Bangladesh and Pakistan are described as enjoying greater social freedoms.

In press freedom Pakistan is listed here at 145th, Bangladesh at 152nd and Iran at 174th among 180 countries. In internet freedom Iran is described here as not even being included because it is assessed among countries that are completely unfree in relation to the internet.

Can you promise these people that next year they will rank even one place better than these countries in social freedoms?
No. Certainly you cannot.
