Van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo in September 1888, in the rendering given here: there is no art in the entire world greater or truer than love for people.

These twenty Iranian women artists gave “art” the value of being great and true. With love they stood beside their people and defended the value of art within their society.

No true artist has ever accepted the world simply as it is, because the moment an artist agrees to do so, they cease to be an artist.

The world will never change unless we accept upon our shoulders the heavy responsibility of changing it. The artist knows that this responsibility is sometimes the very cross they must courageously carry in order to create, upon that cross and before the eyes of the people they loved, the highest artwork of their life.

Victor Hugo once wrote, in the rendering given here, that the artist’s greatest responsibility is first to reveal in their art the pains of their society and then to turn both themselves and their art into that symbol of “hope” in which society can see a better tomorrow.
