Using the power of the alchemist archetype means inviting the mind, at its deepest level, to liberate our own Self.

On the surface, the aim of alchemy is to purify and release the superior substance—gold—imprisoned within an impure material. In psychological terms, it is to make gold from the copper of our being and to release the higher Self that exists within every human being.

There is no fixed way to begin this process, because how it unfolds depends entirely on our point of departure, and that starting point is different for each of us.
This process continues throughout our lives, yet at the same time we carry out our smaller alchemies every day along the way. When we are trapped in a destructive relationship, a job, a way of life, or a way of thinking and cannot get out, we feel that our spirit has been caught and is not free. The work of alchemy is to free the spirit from these places.
Whatever the prima materia may be, and whatever form the process takes, the ultimate aim is always the same: to release the spirit from its chains. We continue this process until our true spirit is finally reborn and united with us, and this union means attaining our own Self.
