True Masculine Consciousness and the Rebirth of Culture and Identity
(A Reading of the Myth of Isis and Osiris)

The mythic story of Osiris and the epic of Horus, regarded for thousands of years as one of the most important and sacred stories of ancient Egypt, carries within it a secret concerning the life and rebirth of every nation. This myth was preserved among those people across generations as a sacred story for a period described here as more than twice the entire history of Christianity and older than the whole history of Judaism.

At the end of the story, Osiris gives worldly rule back to Horus and relinquishes it. He ascends to the heavens as protector and at the same time judge of the souls of the dead. This final part of the story can be interpreted to mean that the ultimate place of an ancient culture after its final resurrection is not earthly government or political rule in the present world. As the first part of the Osiris story suggests, earthly rule ultimately leads to the ageing and blindness of culture and then to its inevitable decay.

The ancient culture—Osiris—in its final resurrection, armed with a modern vision capable of seeing and recognising evil, symbolised by the left eye of Horus given to Osiris, frees itself from the earthly sphere and rises to a higher position. There, succeeding generations may rely upon it, upon its protective and judging power, in order not to be defeated by darkness and decay. This resurrection and liberation of civilisation, capable of continually renewing itself and escaping the cycle of earthly power, gives culture the moral authority of a reference point that can remain a guide, protector and judge for the past and future generations of a nation.
