....
Those small broken wings
that could not escape the spider’s web
became a sign
of the struggle for freedom,
for flight,
for life,
for never surrendering.

They asked you: was it worth it?
And with your beautiful, crucified wings
you were the silence of Christ
at the height of life’s worth.

Nika! O small fighter for life and freedom,
I envy you,
for we grow old in such grief for you,
while in the image of life
you remain so beautiful and eternal.

Aydin Areta

Inspired by a poem by Aparna Vyam,
for Nasrin, Nika’s mother, who does not stop writing and preserving the memory of her daughter.

Grieving mothers and fathers of life and freedom:
never stop speaking and writing of your children.
They are your legacy,
and you are their legacy
for the future of the homeland and freedom.
