💢 The Child and Our Connection with Imagination, Fantasy and Miracle

📍 “The inner child” is a familiar expression for most of us, and we have often heard about the importance of becoming aware of and understanding it.
In his psychology of alchemy, Carl Jung raises important questions about the child archetype and its role in the realisation of individuation. In Jung’s view, within every adult there is an “eternal child.”
We were all once children. Each of us has a child within, and there is no one among us who does not possess at least a basic understanding of the child archetype and its qualities.
The child is a dimension of our personality seeking the realisation of the Self and striving toward growth. In fact, the child carries the deepest desires and highest ideas: it is our point of connection to heaven and transcendence, and at the same time our point of connection to our inner world and feelings.
The child is filled with possibilities that have not yet been realised. For this reason, the child is the individual’s link to imagination, fantasy, and miracle. The child stands somewhere between heaven and earth. The light of heaven still shines in the child’s eyes, while the body has not yet gathered the dust of the earth. The child within us is our connection to this light and to the dream of feet not yet wounded by travelling.
The child is an archetype representing renewal, salvation, potential, wonder, excitement, zest for life, the promise of the future, spontaneity, uncontrived joy, higher pleasure, and—most valuable of all—the capacity to be fully present.
A child becomes so absorbed in what they are doing that everything else is forgotten. The child archetype is therefore an open road toward possibility, hope, a new beginning, change, miracle, and power.
In art, literature, mythology, and religion, the child appears with divine qualities. The symbol of the child represents not external reality but the inner reality of the psyche, reflecting all our desires, wishes, longings, and every new thing still to come.
