Only the person who has stood against their suffering is worthy of it.
If we endured no suffering in life, how could we discover who we are and what capacities and abilities we possess?
If we look back at our past, everything through which we define ourselves, and everything we are proud of that has made us what we are today, has emerged from our suffering. If we look at everything that has happened to humanity from the beginning until now, we will see that everything built has been built through suffering.
Suffering gives us the opportunity to expand ourselves in relation to the problem we face and to discover our capacities.
Suffering is a summit we climb throughout life so that from its height, above a wider landscape, we can look at life.
Seneca, the Stoic philosopher, once wrote:
“No diamond reaches clarity and brilliance without being polished, just as no human being attains transcendence without suffering.”
