Archetypal forces flow in the deepest part of the structure of our psyche. Recognising the structure of these forces can bring what has remained hidden in the shadows of our personality out of unknown darkness and into the light of the known.
This deep self-awareness creates a form of insight that marks the first steps toward change: the recognition that what needs to change is ourselves, and the archetypal energies of personality—some of which have been weakened, ignored, manifested through their opposite pole, or have lost their balance.
This awareness opens a door from the depths of our being toward change and transforms our understanding of what is taking place in life. We become conscious of new values that become the source from which new beliefs are formed; these new values and beliefs create new behaviours, and our new behaviours change the environment around us.
In depth psychology, the human being is never merely the creature of circumstances, but the first initiator of change in their own world: a change that does not arrive from outside, but begins as a path within us, extends into the external world, and gives to that world what has been realised within.
