After the storm...
It does not matter where this photograph was taken. What the sea brings back up to us is what, somewhere, we have submerged in our own psyche.
What can bring us to destruction is hidden not in nature or in the external world, but somewhere in the darkroom of our soul. The root of catastrophe lies within us. All the wars and destructions of history and the world come from here.
This ugly image is a bitter irony directed at everything we could have been but are not—are not yet.
The furthest development of complex organic consciousness in nature—at least as far as we know—has become the most destructive force in the world: destructive toward itself, other living beings, and nature.
Yet there is still hope. Perhaps we are on our way out of the dark corridor of the soul through which we had to pass in order to reach a deeper self-awareness... but perhaps not much time remains.
