According to Rollo May, when resistance manifests in the world as a loving will, it draws us out of passivity and stasis and can set large parts of society in motion.

In the circumstances of our society today, the simple expression of this idea is that the person who helps a working child, loves a compatriot, gives voice to minorities in society, stands for the dignity and freedom of fellow citizens, and lovingly lives today the society that ought to come after despotism, sets will in motion through society as love. Such a person does not stop at what they negate; they create a better world. In my view, this is the great difficulty of many people seeking transformation in our society: they have dissolved themselves entirely into the idea of resistance and overthrow and cannot see that, little by little, they are becoming bound to the very thing they rose to negate.

We will pass through this difficult turning point in history only through a loving will.
