Nasrin, an artist from Kurdistan who dedicated this beautiful work to the late Mahsa Amini and to all the great and courageous women of the Iranian lands, asked me to write a text in English and Persian for the work. I wrote a poem and have recited it in both languages.
Mahsa, O Mahsa!
Have you heard that your name
became a free bird and leaped
on the back of the eastern wind
and awakened our heroes
From their ancient slumber
To defeat the nightmare
that haunted your dreams
Ah the chosen seed!
Have you heard that
the fruit of the forbidden tree of freedom
Was imparted to us by your name
One fruit was oneness,
One life was many,
One seed became a garden,
And one flower brought the spring!
Aydin Areta
Mahsa, O Mahsa!
Have you heard that your name
became a free bird and leaped
on the back of the eastern wind
and awakened our heroes
From their ancient slumber
To defeat the nightmare
that haunted your dreams
Ah the chosen seed!
Have you heard that
the fruit of the forbidden tree of freedom
Was imparted to us by your name
One fruit was oneness,
One life was many,
One seed became a garden,
And one flower brought the spring!
