When we are at one with ourselves and free from becoming lost in the crowd, we experience loneliness less than at any other point in life. It is only through this separation that we can be present in the world in our wholeness.

There is a magical phrase in alchemy that Jung also used repeatedly in his writings:

solve et coagula
first separate, then unite.

For what has never been separated
cannot find its way back into union.
