Severance from the Anima: The Feminine Spirit in Chains

The problem facing our world today is much deeper than the modern equality feminism has chosen as the goal of its struggle. The great problem of the modern world is not equality, but the dangerous severance of humanity from the feminine dimension of its own being. Even what the modern world describes as feminism, in its ultimate realisation, becomes little more than an expansion of the masculine dimension of the world.

What the world needs is not feminism understood as making the feminine world more masculine, but the cultivation of men who are not afraid of the feminine dimension and the anima within themselves: men who are more creative, deeper, more firmly connected to the generative sources of their inner world, and capable of greater inner balance.

The world needs not merely a women’s equality movement but an inner revolt by men against their own unfinished selves: men who begin a historical movement to heal the wounded animus within and open the temple of the anima in the masculine world.
