*** They may be able to defeat each of us individually, but they will never defeat the principles in which we believe.

*** It takes only a little courage to challenge decayed public beliefs and the people who perpetuate them. The courage required is the courage to awaken good but indifferent people and restore their power of judgement. The highest moral courage is to stand before the indifferent masses and compel them to judge themselves: to ask them to choose between what is true and what is comfortable and acceptable; between what they themselves believe and what society tells them to believe.

*** Every right that belongs to me belongs equally to every other human being, and my responsibility is not merely to understand and accept this truth but to struggle for its realisation.

*** Never fear being few in the cause of truth. The victory of a moral movement has never depended on the number of its followers.

*** Better to stand in a minority, even alone, and stand with God in defence of truth while you are called mad, subversive, extremist, godless or heretical; while powers rage against you, people turn upon you, and gallows, pyres and crosses are prepared for you—better this than to stand with a majority that has exchanged humanity, freedom and courage for fear and darkness.
