Hello, my dear friends,

Tomorrow, 19 Tir, I will turn forty-four, and for the first time in all the years of my life—and probably not for the last time—I want to ask you for a birthday gift. Help me fulfil my wish for my forty-fourth birthday.

My birthday dream this year is to help a compatriot: a woman my age who is blind. Leila lost her sight because of a rare genetic disease. Her younger brother has the same condition and is on the verge of losing his sight as well.

Through a beautiful coincidence, fate brought Leila and me into contact. You may find it interesting that Leila is a psychologist and, despite all the limitations of blindness and the difficulties of caring for her family, completed her education through a master’s degree.

Nearly two years ago, Leila’s father was left paralysed and confined to the home after a stroke. The man who had supported and protected his family for years now depends on the help of his blind children even for his simplest daily needs.
