Freedom is not an achievement in life; rather, we are condemned to be free. We are free, through our choices, to transform our existence into an essence that we ourselves choose, and it is precisely for this reason that we are responsible for this freedom.

The essence of what we are is the result of our choices, not the reverse. In other words, our choices are not the result of some pre-existing essence.

Freedom is the only idea that is wholly present in the world. Freedom is nothing other than our capacity to change ourselves and the world.
