Freedom is not one idea alongside other ideas, but the awareness that “possibility” exists in life. For this reason it belongs to the domain of action and “practical reason,” not “theoretical reason.”

Freedom as “possibility” is neither something that can be given nor something that can be taken away. It is with us from the moment of birth, and all other fundamental human rights are rooted in this meaning of freedom as the human possibility of choosing.

Freedom is the one idea that is wholly present and actual in the world, actively and effectively present in human life. Freedom is nothing other than the possibility of changing the world.
