Depth and Archetypal Psychology — Session One, Part Three (1/3): The Realm of Actions and the Archetypal Structure of the Mind

The third and final part of the first session of Depth and Archetypal Psychology (30 minutes; the video file is attached), held in Sydney on 14/9/2019, discusses the proposition that our mind is fundamentally narrative in structure and that its relationship with the Realm of Actions is mediated by archetypes recognisable to human beings everywhere.

The continuation of the discussion about the fundamental differences between the World of Things, which is the concern of science, and the Realm of Actions, which concerns much of psychology and philosophy, as well as a brief examination of personality structure in Jung’s thought, are other topics covered in this session.

The session also briefly considers what archetypes are and how they form within the structure of our collective unconscious, together with theories such as Richard Dawkins’s theory of memes, mentifacts and sociofacts, and the movement from Émile Durkheim’s collective consciousness to the collective unconscious discussed by Carl Jung.
