Continued — The People’s True Power

Love is a liberating force because it breaks the limits imposed upon the other and makes solidarity and connection possible.

As Dr Mehrayeen, who is a sociologist of love in our society, has repeatedly said, the principal need and pain of our society is the absence of love and compassion. This is not an emotional statement. It is the deepest analysis of the reason for the internal fragmentation of our society.

In the circumstances before us, the election is not what matters. This election, by itself, does not even possess a particularly significant political meaning. Whatever your decision may be, remember that this society is diverse but, in its larger totality, seeks change and pursues that change through different methods. A mentality that refuses to recognise this diversity will inevitably divide society into two or several groups, and after that division its attention will focus on nothing other than the differences among those groups. Such a mentality continually creates the “other.”

Let us move beyond this mentality and seek power in the breadth of our range of choices. Solidarity for change is the greatest need of our society today, and this solidarity requires the greatest possible acceptance of the other.
