🎥 Boycott or Participation?

🔶 Debate between Abbas Abdi and Mostafa Mehrayeen

🔻 Abbas Abdi: Non-participation in elections offers no clear prospect. I did not participate in the previous three elections because they were not elections at all. Voting by itself does not confer legitimacy, and through their actions people can withdraw the vote they have given. The 2017 election was held with participation of around 75 per cent, but in December 2017 that vote was withdrawn. By voting, it is possible to prevent conditions from becoming worse. Such an action carries no cost and offers a possible benefit.

🔻 Mostafa Mehrayeen: Voting is a politically meaningless act. Whether we vote or do not vote, nothing will happen. But if the majority votes, social pressure on the government is released, false hope is created for the people, and majority participation is interpreted as endorsement of existing policies. Our life and society have been destroyed, and reformists and figures such as Pezeshkian will bring about no change.
