“Archetypes of Rebirth in Stories and Myths”

Rebirth means that there are hidden forces in life that ultimately overcome limitation and what is mortal. Either we accept that death is ultimately the end of everything and that chaos engulfs all things, or we accept that the forces of order and rebirth can ultimately make possible the birth of a new order and the overcoming of limitations. The archetype of rebirth is present in the deepest layers of the structure of our psyche and can carry us from what we are toward what we can become: our greater Self.

For millennia, the idea of rebirth has been one of the most fundamental ideas present in the stories and myths of the world, including Iranian mythology and, in particular, the deepest logic of the Mazdayasnian tradition. By examining this archetype in these stories and myths and interpreting them through an archetypal structure, rather than literally or formalistically, we can arrive at a deeper understanding of their meaning.

In this video, Dr Areta identifies and interprets the idea of rebirth in myths including Persephone; Isis, Osiris, and Horus; Dionysus; the story of Harry Potter; and Siavash as a symbol of rebirth in Iranian mythology.
