The tyranny of light is as dangerous as the tyranny of darkness.
The tyranny of light regards everything beyond its own realm as dark, dividing the world into its own illumination and an alien darkness.

The luminous tyrant places a crown of light upon his head and, in denying his own dark half, severs his relation with his shadow.
The line he draws between self and other expands fragmentation in the world and destroys the continuity of consciousness.

His luminous veil permanently severs his relation with the consciousness that pervades Being, and the boundaries of his beliefs become gates through which his denied darkness enters the outer world in a state of madness.

Light that has lost its relation with darkness, in its inviolable sense of wholeness, opens the gate of hell upon the earth; and it is in this way that the human being rises to destroy humanity.

In Part Three of the fifth seminar in the Alchemy with Shadow Emotions series, we turn to the stage of blackening in alchemy and reflect on the idea that the water of life of consciousness is always hidden in the depths of inner darkness, not in the light of what has become frozen and fixed within consciousness.

A reflection on the idea that the possibility of rebirth lies in darkness, not in light.
